Introducing Jacaranda: The Ninth Member of Incognito

This spring, Smithers is blooming.

We’re proud to introduce Jacaranda; a new, purple-hued addition to our Incognito collection of solid-colour swim briefs. Jacaranda becomes the ninth colourway in our signature lineup, joining the ranks of Sea Green, Deep Ocean Blue, Jet Black, Racing Red, Canary Yellow, Moody Maroon, Fierce Fuchsia, and Nautical Navy.  Jacaranda is a tribute, a love letter, and a visual memory. Read on to understand why this one has a special meaning.

The Colour with Roots

Purple is rare in men’s swimwear which is exactly why it belongs in your top drawer. It’s bold, fresh, and quietly powerful. And Jacaranda isn’t just any old purple!

It’s named after our founder’s hometown of Grafton, nestled in the Clarence Valley of far north New South Wales. Every spring, over 2,000 jacaranda trees bloom across the town, cloaking streets, parks, and riverbanks in a breathtaking lilac haze. These purple flowers are so iconic, they're celebrated annually during the Grafton Jacaranda Festival, Australia’s oldest floral festival, dating back to 1935.

The festival is a riot of colour and community with a fortnight of parades, street fairs, ferris wheels, fun runs, markets, live music, and a playful nod to the town’s purple obsession. From purple ice creams, cupcakes, and bread at the bakery to inventive cocktails and of course, the Royal Crowning where one young candidate will claim the coveted title of Jacaranda Queen. It’s a time when locals and visitors alike are wrapped in wonder, walking under canopies of violet as petals carpet the roads. It’s hometown magic, and now, we're sharing some of this magic with you guys far and wide!

From Grafton to Sydney to You

If you’ve ever wandered through Sydney’s streets in late October, you’ve likely stopped in awe under a Jacaranda tree. Some of the best are in Kirribilli and Paddington, where the trees bloom with a sense of romance and nostalgia. The purple season draws tourists from all over, and locals treat it like a yearly gift.

At Smithers, Sydney is our base, but Grafton is where our roots lie, and it’s why this colourway carries a special meaning. We wanted to bottle that joy and spread it to beaches, oceans, and poolside escapes around the world.

Available from September 1

Jacaranda will be available as of September 1, the first day of the Australian spring season, and naturally, a symbolic start to a period of renewal. The swim briefs range in sizes from XS to XXL, designed to fit comfortably and confidently, no matter where your adventures take you.

This is your invitation to wear a piece of Australia’s purple season and carry its energy into every swim, sun-drenched afternoon, or impromptu skinny dip.
